What is a ball rebounder?
A ball rebounder is a framed net on a stand that sends a thrown, kicked or passed ball back to you, so you can practice without a partner. Most people also call it a rebound net. A pitchback is the baseball and softball version, usually lighter and built for one sport. A rebound wall is any fixed wall you throw against; lacrosse players call that practice wall ball. A ball rebounder sends the ball back at whatever angle its net is set to.
Why does a ball rebounder matter for young players?
A ball rebounder gives a player real reps on the days the team doesn't meet. That's most days. The Kentucky Youth Soccer Association points out that club players may only practice or play 3 to 5 hours a week in season, and it lists wall passing as homework. A rebound net does that job in a yard with no wall.
How do ball rebounders, pitchbacks and rebound walls differ?
The three tools do the same basic job. They differ in build, size, adjustability and how many sports they're made for.
| Ball rebounder (All Ball Pro) | Pitchback (example: SKLZ Pitchback Youth) | Rebound wall | Source | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Build | Galvanized, powder-coated steel frame, UV-protected mesh net, free-standing collapsible stand | Metal frame with netting | Fixed masonry, concrete or wood | All Ball Pro rebounders; SKLZ |
| Size | Net frames from 2' x 2' (The Mini Pro Multi Sport Ball Rebounder) to 7' x 9' (The Elite XL (EXL) Multi Sport Ball Rebounder) | 2'9" wide x 4'8" tall | Whatever wall you have | Product pages; SKLZ |
| Angle | 3 or 4 screen positions plus tilt on the full-size models | Returns balls at several angles | Fixed | Product pages; SKLZ |
| Moves? | 10" spoked wheels on the four full-size models | Assembles quickly | No | Product pages; SKLZ |
| Sports | Lacrosse, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball | Baseball and softball | Any ball that comes back off it; "wall ball" in lacrosse | All Ball Pro rebounders; SKLZ; USA Lacrosse |

A pitchback suits one young baseball or softball player who needs a light, simple net. A wall wins if you already have a good one and only train in one spot. A ball rebounder earns its place when you want one steel unit that rolls, changes angle and covers several sports. All Ball Pro makes steel-frame, multi-sport ball rebounders, also called rebound nets, for lacrosse, soccer, baseball, softball and basketball.
How do I choose a ball rebounder?
- Measure the space first. Overall width runs from 4'2" on The Stinger X Multi Sport Ball Rebounder to 9.14' on The Elite XL (EXL) Multi Sport Ball Rebounder, and the full-size models sit 2.75' to 3' deep. Leave a clear lane in front for throwing.
- Size the net for your misses. A bigger net catches the throws and kicks that drift. That matters most for soccer, for younger players and for any net a whole team shares.
- Check how it travels. All Ball Pro designed the Stinger X to fit in most cars, while The Varsity Multi Sport Ball Rebounder and The Premier XL (PXL) Multi Sport Ball Rebounder are built for vans and large SUVs.
- Read the warranty before you buy. The standard All Ball Pro limited warranty covers the net frame for 90 days and the steel for 1 year, with +1, +3 and +5 year plans available.
How much target does each ball rebounder size give you?
Target area is the net frame's width times its height. It's the simplest way to compare sizes, because it tells you how much room your pass has to land.
| Model | Net frame | Target area | Compared with the Stinger X |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Mini Pro Multi Sport Ball Rebounder | 2' x 2' | 4 sq ft | about one-third |
| The Stinger X Multi Sport Ball Rebounder | 3.5' x 3.5' | 12.25 sq ft | 1x |
| The Varsity Multi Sport Ball Rebounder | 5' x 5' | 25 sq ft | about 2x |
| The Premier XL (PXL) Multi Sport Ball Rebounder | 5' x 7' | 35 sq ft | about 2.9x |
| The Elite XL (EXL) Multi Sport Ball Rebounder | 7' x 9' | 63 sq ft | about 5x |
The Elite XL's 63 sq ft is roughly five times the Stinger X's 12.25 sq ft. Doubling the net's width and height quadruples the target, so a small step up in frame size buys a big jump in forgiveness.
Frequently asked questions
Is a ball rebounder the same as a fitness rebounder?
No. A ball rebounder is a net on a stand that returns balls for sports practice, while a fitness rebounder is a small trampoline you bounce on. That's why sports brands say "ball rebounder" or "rebound net."
Can one ball rebounder work for several sports?
Yes, if it's built for it. All Ball Pro ball rebounders are made for lacrosse, soccer, baseball, softball and basketball, and the screen positions change how the ball comes back for each sport.
Is a ball rebounder better than a wall?
Not always. A solid wall costs nothing if you have one. A ball rebounder makes sense when you have no good wall, want to change the return angle, or need to roll the net to a field.
Can a ball rebounder stay outside?
An All Ball Pro ball rebounder can, because the frame is galvanized, powder-coated steel and the screen is UV-protected. The limited warranty excludes environmental damage such as saltwater corrosion and extreme weather, so store it in harsh conditions.
What's the difference between a rebound net and a pitchback?
A pitchback is a rebound net made for baseball and softball. Pitchbacks are usually lighter and simpler, while a multi-sport ball rebounder uses a heavier frame and covers several sports.
A ball rebounder gives you a partner's reps without the partner. Compare all five All Ball Pro sizes on the rebounders page.
